Getting Ireland Working

Objective
Create new jobs and restore Ireland’s competitiveness.

How it Works
  • Fine Gael will create jobs by stimulating our economy by investing €7bn in key new infrastructure projects over the coming 4 years.
Infrastructure
  • Investment in our national infrastructure creates tens of thousands of jobs and gives Ireland the foundations to achieve sustainable and real growth.
  • The investment will be targeted at
    • Energy
    • Broadband
    • Water
    • Communications
  • We will achieve efficiencies by cutting waste:
    • €1 billion is spent on our water supplies a year; almost 50% of this water is lost through leaks.
  • National High speed broadband to all parts of our island will be delivered
Reduction in costs for businesses
  • Government-imposed red tape on business will be cut by €500m
  • Introducing a new law providing for rent reviews on existing leases
  • A reduction in employer PRSI for low paid workers
  • A partial loan guarantee scheme will provided to SME’s to create employment.
  • 45,000 new job placements, training and educational opportunities for young people
Finances
  • NewERA will cost €7 billion which will come from the national pension reserve fund and from the sale of assets no longer needed by the state.
Timeframe
  • Fine Gael believes that 20,000 jobs a year can be created.
  • The NewERA investments will take place over the next 4 years.
  • Several of our policies can be implemented right away.
Benefits for you
  • An economy with more jobs will reduce the budget deficit and stem the tide of our exploding national debt and the steady rise in our young people emigrating.
  • As a more business friendly country investment in Ireland will increase generating real wealth.
